A VERY VANCOUVER CHRISTMAS FUNDRAISING CONCERT FOR S.P.C.A

Tuesday, December 1st, 2009

ANNOUNCING A VERY VANCOUVER CHRISTMAS’ REALLY BIG CHRISTMAS CONCERT
IN BENEFIT OF THE BC-SPCA ON DECEMBER 20TH AT ST. JAMES HALL
Vancouver November 22, 2009 – In celebration of the recent release of A Very Vancouver Christmas Volume IV, an album of original Christmas/Holiday music, in aid of the BC-SPCA, Rave On Studio is hosting a live benefit Christmas concert featuring contributing artists from past and present volumes. The festivities take place on December 20th at 7:30 p.m. at St. James Hall, 3214 10th Avenue West, (tickets include a copy of A Very Vancouver Christmas Volume IV and are available through Rave On Studio at $10 each, children under 5 are free). The album features 13 original holiday songs by local rising stars, as well as some old favorites.  All artists and services are donated, and all proceeds from album and ticket sales will be donated to the aforementioned charity.  The following artists will be serenading the audience with their original Christmas tunes: Melissa Endean, Lindsay May, Sillken, Gillian Hobbs, Olga Osipova, Laurell, Hilary Grist, Scott Jackson, Michelle Dumond, Pam Southwell, Ranj Singh, Land of Deborah, Kent McAlister as MC

The project is the creative brainchild of Vancouver Record Producer, Jenn Ashton of Rave On Studio, who wanted to find a way to showcase some of Vancouver’s amazing new musical talent, while at the same time involve and give back to the community. She also wanted to pay tribute to non-traditional Christmas and holiday music and to the people who make it. In August 2006, ten of Vancouver’s most popular musicians and bands were invited to participate in this project for charity. They wrote and recorded their own original Christmas/Holiday music for the first volume in just a few short months, and the results were amazing! Due to the unprecedented success of the first album, it was decided to make this an annual event.

Musical styles are varied, from jazz and blues to rock, country and indie music. All of the material is original with a Christmas/Holiday theme.  One of the goals of this album project is to make these musicians and their music available to a wider, non-club going audience. “I consider many of these musicians to be the ‘next generation’ of Vancouver’s finest, and they have been hand-picked because of their talent and marketability,” explains Ms. Ashton. “We mixed in a few favorites as well, for name recognition, and again, to showcase some of Vancouver’s amazing talent!”

Artists included on Volume IV are:  The Roasted Chestnut Orchestra, Tess Dunn, Adrienne Pierce, Sillken, Hilary Grist, Jim Houston, Gillian Hobbs, Daphne Kalfon, Olga Osipova, Ryan Donn, Laurell and Ranj Singh & the Discriminators.   To learn more and to preview the album, please visit A Very Vancouver Christmas websites: www.veryvancouverchristmas.com and www.myspace.com/veryvancouverchristmas

June 2008

Dear Friends

I founded Peace One Day in 1999 to document my efforts to create an annual day of global ceasefire and non-violence with a fixed calendar date. In 2001, POD achieved its primary objective. United Nations General Assembly resolution (A/Res/55/282) was unanimously adopted by UN member states, formally establishing an annual day of global ceasefire and non-violence on the UN International Day of Peace, fixed in the global calendar on 21 September - Peace Day.

With the Day in place, POD’s main aim is to raise awareness of Peace Day 21 September. POD is a non-profit organisation, impartial and independent of any government, political persuasion, corporation or religious creed.

In 2007 according to the UN, over 100 million people were active on Peace Day, in 192 countries. There were life-saving initiatives in 14 countries and over 80 activities in Afghanistan alone where 1.4 million children were vaccinated against polio.

I hope you’ll make your own commitment for Peace Day and log it on this website. Please visit our new My Take on Peace page and submit a short film telling us what peace means to you.

With thanks and best wishes.

In Peace

Black Rock City’s Sunset - breathtaking

www.burningman.com This festival is something beyond words can describe, it’s something one must experience for themselves. It was the best week of my life, and it really did change my life. I was expanded creatively, intellectually, spiritually, and socially by ideas, people, sights, sound, and survived a sand storm, in addition to having a mad love affair.

Monday, August 4th, 2008

August 8, 2008 will be the first day the World comes to CHINA for the Olympic Games.  To say I cannot contain my excitement is an understatement.

China is such an ancient, diverse, populous culture with a new attitude.  They have the best architects in the world, as well as the talent and ambition to create new economic miracles and battle nature to the bitter end.  Welcome to Beijing, the cultural and intellectual centre of China, and home of the imperial palace, and middle kingdom.  I’ll be sitting in front of my TV  6am in the morning, cheering on the opening ceremonies crying happy tears that the world gets to see why  1/4 of the world population is proud of their heritage!China - The Middle Kingdomimg_2196.jpgimg_2198.jpgimg_2235.jpgimg_2239.jpg
